Vaebn Kehn was born on Romulus (in an
parallel universe) and showed his intelligence at an early age.
Seeing this, his family and government herded him into working for
the Tal-Shiar. He worked as a researcher in Quantum Mechanics,
studying (and eventually creating) quantum and temporal anomalies,
luckily avoiding the darker side of the Romulan military for
several productive years.
When the Romulan War began, he was
reassigned to the prestigious “Shadow Hawks,” a unit who’s purpose
was to “find and eliminate enemies to the Empire.” There, he was
trained to use (and gained all to much experience in the use of)
tracking, abduction, interrogation, assassination, and many other
things he would rather not talk about.
Being rather moral for a Romulan, this assignment escalated his
original qualms into full scale disillusionment. So, after the
Romulans lost the war, he volunteered to be the first Romulan
officer transferred to the Federation. He went to Earth for a
quick run through the academy (to get used to Federation systems,
etc), and requested transfer to a deep-space exploration ship (in
order to avoid some of the renewed fighting/culture clash that had
started). After several years of outstanding service there, his
ship (the USS Endurance) encountered a Federation ship from
another universe. He volunteered to beam over, in order to
help them get back to their own universe. He was still on board
when the ship successfully jumped back.
So it came to pass that he came into this universe. He served
temporarily aboard that ship (the former-flagship, the USS
Independence), before being officially posted on the USS Horizon. |

| Attributes |
|
|
|
|
|
| Strengths /
Talents: |
Vaebn has inherited the quick,
strategic, calculating mind typical of Romulans, but unlike the
typical Romulan, he holds personal integrity as one of the highest
ideals. He is extraordinarily perceptive and secretive, so it is
impossible to tell what he does and doesn't know. Though a scientist
at heart, he can quickly adapt into an engineer, special operations
agent, negotiator, barber, or pretty much anything else the
situation demands. |
| Weaknesses /
Limits: |
Reflecting on those dark days in the
"Shadow Hawks," he feels that he did what he did because of his
fanatical loyalty to his superiors and the Empire. Because of this,
though still loyal to his commanders, his true loyalty is now to his
beliefs, especially of right and wrong. While not a problem most of
the time, this can lead to intense conflicts with his fellow
officers. He also can be impatient with people, and often doesn't
explain how he figures things out (most people eventually learn to
just trust his judgment). |
| Ambitions: |
While he would like promotion (who
wouldn't?) he has no real goals but rather just tries to do the best
he can with the problems at hand. |
| Special
Abilities: |
None |
| Traditions: |
None (at least that he shares with
others) |
| Strong Beliefs: |
He believes in doing the right thing,
and believes in his own abilities. |
| Likes: |
He enjoys solving the various mysteries
of the universe. |
| Dislikes: |
Klingons, and any similar-minded being,
who dismisses intellect. |
| Marital Status: |
Single |
| Quirks: |
Vaebn has several pet projects that he
works on, often in secret. |
|
| Service History |
|
|
|
|
|
|
The specific details of his service in
the Tal-Shiar are unavailable, but it is known that he advanced to
the rank of Rhaetelh, and the title "Fvillha [Director] of
Quantum Weapons Research" before his transfer. After his transfer to
the Federation he graduated from the Academy, and given the honorary
rank of Lieutenant Commander and posted on the USS Endurance. Two
years into his tour, he was court-martialled for disobeying orders
and attempted sabotage. He was demoted to the rank of Ensign, which
he held for almost two more years, until he was beamed over to the
USS Independence.
He served there temporarily by the permission of Captain
Altesoul
for another year, before Starfleet gave Vaebn Kehn his current rank
and assignment on the USS Horizon. Promoted to
Acting Chief Science Officer Stardate 61016:2117. |
|
| Personal Note |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Vaebn can be slightly rude at times, but
means well and enjoys the social niceties as "the hallmark of
civilized people." He makes friends slowly, but is extremely loyal
to those he is close to. He rarely talks much about himself,
preferring to listen and learn and help others, but has no problem
honestly discussing his colorful past should the subject be raised.
His hands-on approach to his job is sometimes difficult considering
his field, but means he will always be ready for away missions and
to assist in any way he can. |
