Simon was born in 2357 in San Francisco, on
Earth. He has a twin sister, Riann, who was born a few minutes
before him. Being Betazoid he and Riann share a very special
connection since they are twins. Doctors discovered that special
conditions in the womb of a Betazoid mother alter the levels of
neurotransmitters in the childs brain, changing connections. The
twins in the womb not only develop their own biological
connections in the brain but also develop enhanced telepathic
connections with one another, with their sibling being the first
person they ever communicate with, even before birth.
Simon is very compassionate and cares about
every one he meets But unlike his sister he is very shy and
cautious. He has trouble making friends, but the couple friends he
has are very close. He's shy because growing up he didn't have a
chance to meet many people and when he did he was always very
anxious around them. He's very "down to earth" (even though most
of his life is spent on a ship!) and he's good at handling
situations that others may find intimidating.
Simon and Riann grew up on an independent
biological research vessel that travelled the galaxy studying many
different things from different ecological environments to genomes
of many different species of animal and plant. Some of the
chemicals discovered on the ship became top of the line medicines.
By the time he was ten he became the "doctor"
of the family knowing how to treat most serious injuries. He was
always looking out for his sister, because on a small ship there
isn't much to do and there is a lot of trouble to get into. When
they were 16 Riann stole the one research ship that they had
onboard and went for a joyride. Simon was very upset about this
and worried because he couldn't make sure she was alright. While
she was gone their one of their parents' experiments succeeded and
moved half of the ship into fluidic-space. This had awful
consequences though. Everything was badly damaged and they were
left dead in the water when things came back to normal, except
their parents were nowhere to be found. Riann returned a few hours
later, and was able to help Simon fix most of the ship. Luckily
the research vessel had many undamaged systems they could use for
references. They finally found their parents, but that's another
story.
Simon witnessed a phaser malfunctioning and
exploding when he was 17. The blast seriously injured him, his
sister and many others. Since that day he has been terrified of
handling any kind of firearm. In the academy he focused on hand to
hand combat instead and enjoyed the exercise he got from it.
Simon felt like he had trouble fitting in at
the academy, until he found something he really enjoyed and became
a part of it. He found some very good friends there and slowly
adapted to living at on Earth and being in the same place for a
long time. Upon graduation Simon and Riann were placed on
different ships. |
