Ted never knew his father and his mum died when he was 4. He was raised by his grandparents on their farm. His grandmother died two days after his graduation from medical school.

At school and later at the academy he was a bit of a loner. He became more sociable when he decided to become a doctor and found the only way to survive the pressure of the intense studying was to ‘blow off’ steam with his fellow classmates and sufferers.

He has had a series of relationships with women but they rarely last as he finds it so much harder to commit to another person than he does to his work. He is quite happy sticking to his bachelor lifestyle and never sleeps with anymore in his department.

Ted loves puzzles and needs new challenges to keep him interested.

After finishing medical school Ted interned on several small exploration ships. During the dominion war he worked as a battle field doctor and due to his mixed heritage was the subject of much discrimination. He did his duty however and tries to forget the rest.

After the war he transferred to a Federation research facility on earth where he worked on modern illnesses and diseases. He then spent a brief spell on the USS Independence helping with a backlog of work they had. When the opportunity to join the USS Horizon opened up Ted had jumped at the chance.
