3 of 13 was discovered after the Battle of Wolf
359 on the remains of a Federation ship. He had sustained serious
injury, but was not quite dead. He was quickly placed into
cryostatis and transported back to Earth under the supervision of
Starfleet Special Operations. There he spent 3 years undergoing
evaluations and testing in an attempt to remove his Borg implants.
This was only partially successful and also revealed surprising
information. During his testing it was found that his DNA was a
mixture of Augment DNA and some unknown alien species. Once 3 of
13 was able to speak English, it was found that his species had
been designated by the Borg as Species 6530 - he was the result of
genetic experimentation between Augment DNA and that of Species
6529. This melding resulted in a species that was superior in many
regards to that of Species 6529. It was hoped that this new
improved species would be able to turn the tide against the Borg
invasion. However, eventually this new species, designated Species
6530, were assimilated into the Borg Collective.
After Three's tests were completed and all the
implants that could be safely removed were removed, Three was
placed in a specialized training program. This was done to
evaluate his potential and decide how best to place him in the
service of Starfleet. During this testing it was found that his
physical and mental abilities were superior to that of the normal
human. At first this brought concern to Special Operations
personnel, but they quickly found out that Three had not inherited
the lust for power and domination that had been present in the
original Augments. During his evaluation it was also discovered
that Three suffered a unusual sensitivity to various forms of
radiation, taking twice as long as a normal human to adapt to
them. He as showed a complete lack of knowledge in the fine art of
socializing. This was never improved on during his training as it
was decided to not be of high priority. On his last week of
training, Three managed to short circuit several computer consoles
and ended up earning the nickname 'Sparky'. This was meant as a
joke by the lab technicians, but Three took it to be his new name.
Though he always introduces himself as Three, he will often also
include 'Sparky' as part of his introduction. Perhaps his social
skills are beginning to grow and adapt.
After 3 years of training Three was certified
fully able to join Starfleet. Due to the sensitivity of who and
what he is, it was decided to place him on a deep range ship as a
way to test his training and ability to function in Starfleet. |
