Scene: USS Horizon, during/after atmospheric entry


Polean had her bags beamed straight to her quarters, with the exception of her Cochlear Implant. She had received the device when she was twelve years old, which was her first entry into the world of the hearing. By this point, she had already learned both American Sign Language and written English.

She beamed aboard the Horizon and, although the place was pretty slammed, she could feel people's eyes on her everywhere she went.

In many ways, the implant made her feel inhuman. No matter what, the first thing people looked at was her implant.

What she felt like at times, though irrational, was a borg. Back home on earth, implantees called themselves "CI borgs."

If only they knew how true that seemed to her.

She thought about it the whole way to the bridge, which was not far given the small size of the ship. After being introduced to the Captain, she immediately went into workmode. Maybe when they got out of this part, she could take a single night shift and familiarize herself more with the ship, and find out ways she might improve it, but for now, it was time for work, and she went to it with a diligence.

When the captain had ordered full biohazard measures, she simply responded with a "Yes,Sir," and left, preparing for what was next.
