Title: Resistance
Author: Chief Of Operations Lt. Autumn Falls
Time: Current
Scene: Kah'Leel
They had moved several times to different secret locations, every time
encountering more discontented members of the Som-Nyan population and more
increasingly worrying stories. With each passing hour Autumn and Simon seemed to
win the trust of the people; gradually, they met more senior members of the
resistance. However, the resistance was wisely cautious, never giving away too
many of the specifics of their movement. As time passed the illusion that it was
a small band of unhappy dissenters was replaced by the feeling that this group
was well-organised, well-financed and on the verge of some kind of coup.
Autumn was glad that Simon had come along with her as several times they were
led blindfolded to secure locations and, whilst the resistance had assured their
safety, it was nice to know there was someone else in the same predicament that
would fight for you.
Rubbing her hands over her face to try and relieve the fatigue she was starting
to feel, Autumn felt Simon reassuringly pat her on the shoulder. They were
currently waiting in a small back room of a tavern, scheduled for a meeting with
one of the top resistance members who had monitored their interest and was
finally prepared to share some information.
The door opened and a woman in her late fifties walked in and took the seat
opposite them.
"My name is Estelle." When she smiled creases appeared at the side of her mouth,
indicating that she smiled at lot, or at least she used to. Her hair was a
dignified grey and her eyes a deep blue.
"Mr Kehn is in great danger." Autumn went to ask a question but Estelle held up
her hand to stop her. "I have people on the inside and your crew member is
currently being forced to undergo more dream chamber sessions."
"I understand your Captain is trying all the diplomatic routes and it is warming
to see such a high ranking official with such integrity. Sadly, the officials in
charge of the dream chambers have been corrupted."
A look of pain across her face and Autumn felt a wave of sadness wash over her.
"My husband and I were great advocates of the dream chamber. We had such
idealistic hopes, but it would appear money, greed and short sightedness played
a part in the chambers becoming pawns in a malevolent manoeuvre to keep the
population under control and profitable."
"My husband Henry was blindsided by it. He was sucked in and believed the lies
they were feeding him. He sacrificed our own son even though, in my heart, I
always hoped he knew that our son was innocent."
She paused.
"But then maybe that would make it worse, because then he would have known the
chamber's faults and still done their bidding as one of the head sleeper agents.
That was when I formed the resistance."
They had made it all the way up the chain to the leader of the resistance.
"Our numbers are small. Purposely so, as the chambers can detect secret
organisations." A wry smile crossed her face.
"However, when we rise I have no doubt, from our subtle research, that many
others would join us. The organisation also includes strategically helpful
people including engineers, scientists, doctors and workers in the energy, water
and food services. As I said, we may be small but we are well-organised,
connected and ready."
"My suggestion, that I hope you will relay to your Captain, is that you need to
get your man out, and get him out now. Then we will put an end to the oppression
of the chambers. The Government will have to deal with internal affairs before
it can worry about the USS Horizon."
"Good luck." She said as she stood. Leaving the room the door closed behind her,
Autumn and Simon sharing a bemused look.
