USS Horizon NCC-72400

Stardate: 70417:1630
Title: "Along Came a Borg...Well, Ex-Borg"
Author: Ensign 'Sparky' (Three of Thirteen)
Time: Before and During "Life is Never Ironic...."
Scene: USS Horizon Corridors and Bridge

After the encounter with the unusual sphere where the USS Horizon was supposed to be and then the activation of a tractor beam that resulted in the runabout being pulled into the sphere, many questions had been answered, but many more were created in their place. Three had begun to immediately scan the tractor beam's frequency and had discovered that it was significantly different than those used by the Federation. In fact, it was closer in nature to the holding beams used by Borg vessels to trap vessels in order to facilitate boarding or the use of cutting beams. This piqued the interest of Three and he actually showed a momentary spark of emotion. Ensign Cochran had been so distracted by trying to find a way out of the tractor beam's grasp that he had not noticed the momentary emotion.

After being pulled into the sphere they had seen the USS Horizon orbiting a planet and had been contacted by them. After receiving permission to dock they had both moved off to their separate destinations.

Once Three had finished installing his regenerator in his quarters and had run a few diagnostics on it to ensure complete operation within required specifications, he had gone to report to the Captain. During his trip to the Bridge, Three noticed that his presence sparked the usual array of emotional responses from the crew. He was even challenged by Security at one point but, after verifying his identity and his assignment to the Horizon, they allowed him to continue. After this encounter Three decided that it would be best to give the Captain fair warning of his impending arrival.

"Captain, this is Three of Thirteen."

There was a momentary pause and then a response.

[Go ahead, Ensign.]

"Sir, I am contacting you to inform you of my arrival onboard and that I will be arriving at the Bridge shortly. As I have caused several crewmembers a certain degree of surprise and shock by my presence, I wished to give you an early warning of my arrival so that you and the rest of the Bridge crew would not be as surprised."

[Understood, Ensign. I received notification of your arrival shortly before we were pulled into this sphere. However, due to our current situation I have not had the opportunity to inform your Department or the crew in general as to your assignment to us. Proceed to the Bridge and we'll take things from there. Deadilus out.]

With that the link was terminated and Three resumed his trip to the Bridge.

As the Ensign entered the Bridge he was greeted by the sharp intake of air that represented the utter surprise of one of his crewmates at his appearance. He smartly stepped into the control area and moved off to the side and awaited the directions of the Captain in a calm and unthreatening manner.

"Everyone, your attention please. This is one of our new crewmembers, Ensign Three of Thirteen, joining us in the role of Tactical Officer. Given his rather... 'unique'... point of view and knowledge on Alien technology it was felt he may be able to greatly assist with much of our exploration of deep space," Captain Deadilus introduced Three.

"Sir, if I may, many of my last co-workers liked to refer to me as 'Sparky'. This seemed to ease their tension in regards to working with me. Perhaps it would help if the crew referred to me in this manner as well," Three stated in his usual emotionless manner.

"Perhaps you are correct. We will see if this works, and if we can't come up with a better name for you."

"As you wish, Sir. As per Starfleet regulations I am reporting to you to notify you of my arrival and to request permission to join the crew. Additionally, Captain, I would like to inform you that as the runabout I was on was being pulled into this sphere I ran several scans and discovered that the tractor beam had several characteristics in common with Borg holding beams. I have not been able to fully examine my scans as yet, but I felt you should be made aware of this in case the information could be of use in the current situation," Three stated awaiting the Captain's response.
