Title: These Were The Days Of Our Lives
Author: Basil Khalid
Time: Current
Scene: USS Horizon

*From the future? Now that is something I was not prepared for, I just wish I do not meet myself, all the stupid things I could tell myself... and all my dreams that can be shattered in an instant by a misplaced word from my own self from the future. By Allah, the future has not been written yet, and I do not wish to know anything about myself.*

These were Basil's thoughts as he prepared himself to join the away team. He was changed; he had lost his own self during the recently finished mission. He had placed in doubt many things he once held upon. A good thing he no longer dreamt about his parents - life goes on and he managed to swallow his problems; he found a dark corner in his being, a place of safe keeping, of forgotten dreams and thoughts. In there he stored his former self with everything he once was. In its place now lay a new entity. The entity kept the name Basil Khalid, some of his traits, his duties and responsibilities, but the new entity was just a child - it was a new consciousness, eager to grow, to expand, to evolve.

These changes in himself made him change his opinion about many things. His fate hanged in doubt - a new one was taking its place.

"Everything that is, is alive. Everything that is alive can become a god."

The words had become a mantra in his mind, a constant reinforcement of his newfound understanding. More importantly they were an epiphany, the key to unlocking a whole new universe of knowledge. He couldn't believe how narrow-minded he had been. His life had a new meaning now, a new understanding of the universe around him, a whole new philosophy. He knew that his new beliefs were not only his; the ancient Indians from Earth were the first, conscious that everything, earth, water, wind, fire, everything is life. And everything that is life can evolve, and by doing so it can become a god, step by step. But the path is hard, and few make it.

Basil shook his head as he tried to focus. From time to time his mind would wonder off, poking with a small finger the water of a large lake, creating small waves. Those waves were his thoughts; he spent much time lately thinking about many things, but now was neither the time nor the place for such things.

*This is not the time for it...* Basil smiled to himself, *...time... such an uncontrolled aspect of our existence, such a precious resource, such a powerful enemy...*

He was somehow puzzled by the appearance of the future Horizon into their path. Even if the idea of seeing himself or even talking to himself was out of the question, he did have a certain curiosity if he was still alive and on that ship in the future.

His problem now was that he wanted to be part of the away team. He hadn't been assigned to the away team, but that didn't stop him to prepare himself for it. As Ensign Sparky took the post on the bridge he was left only with the routine job: checking the weapons systems to make sure that they functioned within normal parameters.

*Well, back to work...* he thought to himself as he continued his routine. *Come to think of it, it would be really fun to argue with my older self. I always wanted to talk to a younger version of me and call myself 'young one'. I think me from the future kind of wants this even more then me from the present...*
