Title: Accepting the Culture
Author: Ensign Colón
Time: Current
Scene: Rennas
As the night progressed, Gabriel took in all the information Plunk'Sel gave him. The Renna culture and way of life was very intriguing to the Ensign. Plunk'Sel was not one to talk much, but throughout the meal, he seemed to ease into the conversation very well, talking up a storm.
"Plunk'Sel," Gabriel began, "how long would it take a Renna to heal naturally from a cut or bruise?"
The insect-looking Renna stretched a bit as he finished his fifth plate of food, shifting his body so he would manipulate his stomach to compensate for more food. "As you see, our outer skin is very rough; if a Renna does become injured it could take anywhere from a few hours for a simple cut to heal itself or a few days for a broken limb to set itself in place," he concluded, reaching for another meat product.
Gabriel nodded and thought a bit. *A few hours for a cut to heal! Humans, even a paper cut, would take a few days to fully set and heal. A broken arm, if healed naturally, would take weeks...*
Clearly, the Renna had an advantage over humans with respect to physiological repair. Suddenly, Plunk'Sel received a communication. Gabriel looked over to Dr. Matthews in confusion when Plunk'Sel spoke in his native language over the communication device; it was the first time he had heard the native tongue.
"If you will excuse me Doctors, I must go and take care of a medical problem," Plunk'Sel stated, standing and bowing, saying his farewells to everyone. He came to Gabriel and, out of respect, the Ensign stood up to say his good-byes.
"Doctor Colón, you wish to accompany me?" Plunk'Sel asked.
Gabriel raised a brow in confusion once again. "I do not understand Plunk'Sel."
The Renna made a noise not dissimilar to a chuckle, noting the confusion. "On Renna, if someone is called away and must excuse himself from an event, he is accompanied by anyone who chooses to stand with him. Since you have arisen, you must want to accompany me, no?" Plunk'Sel asked.
Gabriel looked to the CMO, and Ted nodded to Gabriel. "It is alright, Ensign; this might be a good learning experience for you. However, please keep me updated every hour."
"Yes sir, I most certainly will."
