USS Horizon NCC-72400

Stardate: 71026:1204
Title: A Prelude to Drastic Action
Author: Captain Deadilus
Time: Current
Scene: USS Horizon, Ready Room

As Captain Deadilus sat opposite Lt. Commander Falls he found himself wondering just how these events had turned out in the original iteration of the Federation's encounter with the Rennas. Had Ensign Colón been captured, tortured and returned to them? Had Emma and many of the others reacted badly to the telepathic-like intrusion? Had Three's Borg nanites re-asserted themselves, even if only temporarily, resulting in the deaths of Rennas drones? Had they found evidence of prior contact with humans?

He didn't doubt that the answer to all of these questions was 'no' - any one of them alone would have set off warning bells and most certainly would have led to a much more 'in-depth' study of the Rennas planet and culture before considering them for membership of the United Federation of Planets.

From Colón's recollection, the concoction of drugs administered to him by Plunk'Sel had allowed them to access much of his memory, providing them with the potential to now have knowledge of his computer codes and ship layout amongst numerous other aspects.

And so, before entering the Ready Room, Autumn had forced a change to the junior Medical Officer's computer access codes and ensured the shield frequency was set for an auto-rotation. Although Gabriel's access to vital ship's systems was limited, it didn't hurt to be careful...

As Three lay unconscious in the Brig, Doctor Matthews kept one eye on the computer readouts monitoring their 'patient' from afar. He was obviously troubled, his sleep far from restful, but the Tactical Officer would just have to wait until those returning from the planet were seen to.

Ensign Colón's revival of the young female Captain had reinforced to Ted that the young man was obviously capable of performing his duties, and so the pair of them and the on-shift Medical crew proceeded to treat patient after patient until Sickbay started to return to some semblance of normalcy.

Ensign Khalid stood ready at the Tactical station on the Bridge, maintaining a watchful eye on the Rennas fleet. Their technology was limited to low warp ships, basic phasers and basic torpedoes, but even so they posed a significant threat from the telepathic 'interference' the females of their kind could generate. Meanwhile, Ensign Remmick's focused graviton pulse and his now-unused resonator both stood ready for use as effective weapons to counter the Rennas architecture and their telepathic intrusions, even if for a short while.

~

Meanwhile, the USS Horizon that had travelled from forty years hence had held its position. With their Captain still onboard the present-day Horizon the crew continued to hope that the future civil war could, and would, be avoided.

But such measures would take time and were not a perfect solution; the Rennas threat would remain on the borders of the Federation. For some, that uncertainty meant more drastic measures might be needed...
