Title: "A Lurch in the Plan"
Author: Ensign 'Sparky' (3 of 13)
Time: Following and During "Hard Knocks"
Scene: Turnquistia
Since their arrival Three had been switching from maintaining an active scan to
formulating ways to assist the crew on their current mission. He was going over
every bit of information available to the ship and had finally come up with an
idea. Once his shift ended, Three made his way directly to Medical.
=/\= Several Hours Later, shortly before Ensign Ross's Distraction =/\=
Doctor Matthews had finally completed Three's facial 'makeover', as the doctor
jokingly called it, and was now on the surface in a strange uniform that the
computer had said was common for this area; he was dressed in a dark black and
blue pin-stripe suit, complete with a hat and a pair of black reinforced gloves.
Making his way towards the casino that the crew had moved towards he spotted the
Captain holding onto one of the locals. He then heard some yelling and then saw
Ensign Ross come flying out of the casino.
"That all ya got?" Alex smiled.
Three then saw one of the Turnquistians smash a bottle on the casino doorframe
and brandished it towards Alex. "I gots a lotta mo' for ya, Big Mouth."
The Turnquistian with the broken liquor bottle advanced on Alex, followed by
other thugs. They brandished pool cues as well as brass knuckles along with
several other accoutrements of pain.
Watching as Alex sighed, then ready himself, Three decided that the best place
for him to be of help was in saving Ensign Ross before he did anything more
foolish. Three quickly stepped up as the Turnquistian with the smashed bottle
swung for Ross. He quickly grabbed the hand with the bottle and then lifted and
tossed aside the man with little effort. In the few seconds of confusion that
Three had caused, he stepped between Ross and the crowd and eyed each of them.
"Da Boss sent me to get ya before ya do som'thin stupid," growled Three in his
best Turnquistian. "Too late I guess!" Three turned back towards the locals. "He
be mine and if yas wanna keep yas faces unbroke, go away."
The crowd didn't move an inch as they eyed the new arrival and then looked to
where the bottle man was laying and not moving.
Three knew he would live, although once he awoke he would be very sore and
probably a bit confused.
One of the braver in the crowd decided to test his luck and swung the pool cue
at Three. He effortlessly caught it and pulled it from the man's hands and
tossed him back lightly, sending him into several of the crowd but causing no
damage. Three the took the cue in both hands and snapped it into two
effortlessly; this was all the convincing the crowd needed, and they turned and
bolted back into the Casino.
Without missing a beat Three turned and roughly picked up Ensign Ross.
"Like I said, Da Boss sent me to get ya. Don't give me trouble or ye gonna
regrets it," Three said as he made a show of picking up Ross and heading for the
location that Three had discovered most likely contained the Boss of these
people and possibly the missing crewmembers.
He had figured this out by going over all the scans from the ship’s sensors -
there was a small area that seemed to always have the dampening field up; others
fluctuated their coverage, but this one area was always covered. Three had also
figured that due to this people's lack of real technical knowledge, this was the
best place to go. And so Three decided to wait nearby for the Captain to arrive,
turning down an alley a few blocks away, gently putting Ross on his feet.
"Sorry for that, but you seemed to need some help," Three stated mater-of-factly
as Ross looked at him in pure surprise, if not a little anger.
