There is an inevitability to the universe. It reminds us that although we may
wield god-like forces... we are not gods.

It was 5 revolutions prior that they'd come with questions about the new light
they'd seen in the distant night sky.
"What does it mean?"
The cherub faced child closed her gray shaded eyes. "Destruction."
Now, all these revolutions later, they came again.
"The light has gone. What does it mean?"
Talia closed her eyes and opened her mind. "Salvation... for now."
Even as she'd said the words she knew she was giving false hope. Still, what did
it cost? The truth would surely have destroyed their way of life faster than the
collision.
As it was, she'd relayed only a half-truth. The comet had been destroyed... only
to send large chunks hurtling toward their sun, causing a flame-tailed meteor to
break free from orbit. Now, instead of 70 years, death would come in 10.
"Mother?"
"Yes?"
"What are your hopes and dreams?"
"I'm no different from any other parent... to see you grown." Talia could hear
the smile in her voice. "That seems fair, don't you think?"
Nestling her head a little deeper into her mother's lap, she sighed, closed her
eyes and whispered; "Fairness is mine... sayeth the Lord."
