Site June seemed to be the month for things going wrong with the site. Firstly, Scott noticed that people had filled out application forms but hadn't received any information. After several increasing angry emails with the service providers (who are STUPID!) we changed to a different server. The problem was resolved quickly and with minimal disruption, and we have since received applications. We do think that this may have cost us a writer or two but we hope they will come back. Secondly, we lost the site for a day due to fiber-optic problems in the Gloucester area. However everything has been working better than expected since then. There have been some new additions to the site in the last three months including the sections "I Have Seen That Face Before", "Ships That Pass In The Night" and “Close Encounters”. We are hoping that this will be a useful resource in writing stories so if you are ever stuck for NPC’s to write in a post, need a different ship or are unsure about a race mentioned in a post, it should all be easily accessible. This is in no way saying that you can't create new NPC’s and/or ships - it was just a thought that it might keep us on the same page and keep the same few faces popping up every now and then. A page has been made called "Vote For Us". If you click on the banners you automatically vote for the Star Trek : Infinity site and this pushes us up the list of RPG PBEM's. Hopefully the closer to the top we are the more traffic we will get to our site and the more new members we will get. Starbase 9, although not currently an active command, is an important place in the Infinity universe. At some point in the future we hope to have enough writers to expand and make it a posting Starbase. At the moment, however, we just use it as a place where the Relentless and Horizon can return to. It is also the home of Admiral Foster and some other characters that came with us from our last RPG PBEM but didn’t quite fit on either of the ships. Lauren Spring was my first character and I couldn’t bear the thought of just letting her go so I have stationed her on Starbase 9. Anyone can read the stories on the starbase and if you feel like commenting on them please stick a message on the board.
Stories The USS Horizon is coming to the end of its time on Tharan 3 with the cure now developed and the few survivors being prepped for evacuation on the USS Exeter. This first storyline has shown a good interactive style of posting between the Horizon’s writers that makes reading the stories all the more enjoyable. The key USS Relentless storyline is finally getting underway. We now know that the device recovered from the Progenitor facility is in fact capable of transporting the whole ship to parallel universes and the Relly has now become a sentient entity. Starbase 9 is generally focused on the interaction between its few characters (giving us an opportunity to write some of the stories we were never allowed to do in the past!). It also shows the state of politics in the Federation and gives glimpses into what motivates Admiral Foster.
Announcements This Quarter we welcomed an astounding number of new writers.
Sadly we have to say goodbye to Peter Hill who is leaving due to new demanding work commitments. We wish him the best of luck. Congratulations to the post of the month winners for the last quarter.
Polling for the post of the month has not been as successful as we had hoped so from this month the Captains will be awarding the Post of the Month award to the writer who they feel has posted consistently within the storyline and of an outstanding quality. We are hoping once our writer base expands to try the polling method again. Congratulations to Captain Deadilus on receiving an ‘Excellence In Writing’ and John Galt on his ‘Romance Award’. If you think a post deserves a special award talk to your Captain who will be happy to consider it. Many happy returns to those with birthdays in the last three months, including Scott Deadilus, Yonatan Levi and Peter Hill. Good luck to Clayton Mock who is currently on a ‘leave of absence’ from the game whilst he is completing his police academy training. I am sure everyone will join me in wishing him every success. Finally, well done to Jeremy on achieving his second green belt and first place finisher in the Dojo Ted Tournament AARP division.
Other Taking onboard Yonatan’s suggestion that our stories would benefit if we could talk more as a group we are currently looking into an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) CGI application. Obviously, if we find something that works we will let you all know. Please let me know if there is anything you want added to the next Infinity Quarterly, any announcements you would like mentioned or if you have an opinion you would like to share please feel free to email me. Many thanks for reading.
Kind regards,
