Robert is an only child, born to Rem and
Melanie Browning on Betazed. From a young age Robert was taught
mechanics and engineering as he was home schooled. He found it
difficult to get used to his empathic abilities, so spent a long
time with his father practicing and gaining control. As the time
passed eventually Rem was called away, back to Starfleet as his
skills as an engineer were needed to fight in the war. Robert
wasn't all happy about his father leaving... especially after his
ship was destroyed around Betazed when the Dominion captured it.
Fortunately, Robert and his mother had travelled safely to Earth.
Robert threw himself into studies, trying to find ways to stay
busy. He became interested in ancient Earth history, specifically
with the late 19th century, where William Browning became well
known for developing new weapons that had been unseen before.
Robert spent time reading what he could about the area and
reliving some parts in holosuites when he could. Eventually Rob
enlisted in the Academy when he was of age. Graduating in the 91st
percentile, Robert found he had a gift for solving problems when
it came to maintenance. He was also noted for being a skilled
weapons engineer thanks to his passion for the topic.
Still a little angry at the loss of his father, he hides it well,
earning his nickname "Robbie the Robot" from another Ensign with a
passion for old sci-fi movies, who noted his occasional cold
attitude when the Dominion was mentioned.
His empathic nature allowed him to work well with in teams, making
his work very efficient and well praised, although not completely
infallible - during a repair shift aboard the Spectre, the damaged
fighter he was repairing developed a power surge and partially
exploded, the resultant force throwing him across the hangar bay.
His left eye was damaged and he now has a permanent black spot
along the left edge of his vision. The eye also appears to be
white to onlookers, making his 'black and white stare' one that is
often spoken about. |
