Andrew Keller was born in 2338 in New London,
Earth to mixed parentage: a Scottish mother, Elizabeth Armstrong
and German father, Markus Keller. Markus was a retired Starfleet
Commodore while Elizabeth was a Communications Officer at
Starfleet Command and it was inevitable that a young Andrew would
follow in his father's footsteps and he entered Starfleet Academy
on his 17th birthday.
Excelling at navigation and finishing top of year in piloting, it
wasn't long before Andrew's talents were noticed and he was
assigned upon graduation to the USS Capquest on July 4th 2357.
Ambitious and enthusiastic, Andrew rose quickly through the ranks
and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander and third-in-command
of the USS Capquest in 2363.
An Ambassador-class Starship, the USS Capquest was involved in the
battle against the Borg incursion at Wolf 359 in 2367 and was
badly damaged with massive loss of life, including that of the
ship's Captain and First-Officer. Subsequently, the USS Capquest
under the command of Lt. Cmdr Keller was able to safely return to
Starfleet Command despite being rumoured to have been destroyed
with all hands. The ship was repaired at the Utopia Planitia
shipyards and served a 2 year tour of duty under patrolling the
Federation border along the Neutral Zone.
It was during this tour that the USS Capquest was involved in an
encounter with the Romulan Warbird Rakkala. Although sustaining
heavy damage, the USS Capquest successfully defended against and
destroyed the Rakkala which was a proto-type Warbird caring a new
type of phased-ion torpedoes. During the encounter, Lt. Cmdr
Keller was badly injured, losing both legs and lower-right arm and
retired from Starfleet upon the ship's return to Earth where it
was decommissioned. Andrew was fitted with cybernetic limbs soon
afterwards and enjoyed the civilian life with his wife Andrea, a
medical officer whom he served with on the USS Capquest.
It was during the Dominion War that the USS Capquest was
recommissioned in 2373 to Starfleet despite being 'antiquated' due
to a lack of ships and, finding the lure of once again being part
of the ship's crew both Andrew and Andrea rejoined the ship. The
new Captain, Walter Hawkridge, had previously commanded science
vessels and small patrols along the former Maquis Badlands and his
experience in starship combat was cruelly exposed by a Cardassian
snare during the Battle of Bajor in 2374, which resulted in the
Capquest being forced into an asteroid belt. Only by the skills of
Keller did the ship manage to navigate the belt and survive, but
damage to the ship was substantial and many lives were lost,
including that of Andrea Keller. The USS Capquest took no further
part in the conflict.
Upon arrival at Starbase 23, the USS Capquest was decommissioned
for the final time. With the loss of his wife, Andrew Keller felt
that he no longer had a home on Earth and re-enlisted permanently
with Starfleet, serving with a variety of vessels over the years
both on exploration and patrol missions. |
