Character History

Tarek is unique. He is a bit of a paradox. Born at Starfleet Medical in 2353 to a Vulcan father and Betazoid mother. As a result, Tarek has an almost unmatched mental capability. His wanting for knowledge reflects that of most Vulcans however Tarek at times lacks the mental discipline needed to control his intense emotional urges. Being that his father is a Starfleet ambassador, Tarek spent most of his childhood with his mother and would visit both Vulcan and Betazed on regular occasion. He had a somewhat difficult childhood.

Tarek spent the early part of his childhood exploring his emotions and little time studying logic and emotional control. As a result of his quick temper, he would often end up in fights due to other children teasing him about his ears. Tarek understood that he must honor the culture of his father. It was difficult for him because he often did not have the constant guidance of his father or other Vulcans. In an attempt to find a way to control his emotions, Tarek studies various martial arts. His life became more difficult when his mother, an engineer consultant with Starfleet, was killed by the Borg at Wolf 359. Tarek's anger and hatred for the Borg became so intense that his father sent him to Vulcan to study in solitude with a Vulcan Master to learn to control his emotions. Tarek left Vulcan after ten years of solitary study and meditation with the vow to honor his father's wishes and strive to avenge his mother's death.

Tarek entered Starfleet Academy in 2377. It was at the Academy that Tarek finally understood why his father had been gone for so much of his childhood. He understood the responsibility that comes with maintaining peace. Tarek began to specialize in diplomatic areas as well as linguistics and tactical operations. Benefiting from a photographic memory due to his impressive mental capacity, Tarek was able to master training exercises within minutes and was able to graduate from the Academy in just two years. His abilities made him an ideal candidate for Starfleet Intelligence.

Tarek spent his first year in Starfleet as an exchange officer aboard a Klingon Vor'cha class cruiser investigating reports of suspicious activities involving the Remans. During this time Tarek began to study the Klingon culture and found a peace through combat that helped to ease his intense emotional urges. He constantly accepted challenges and in doing so gained immense respect from his Klingon counterparts. His Betazoid heritage allows him to regularly express his feelings toward a particular issue without compromising his Vulcan nature. He values logic but often "follows his gut."
