Born in 2233 to a wealthy corporate family on
El-Auria, Kaltos' early life was one of luxury and gift. Kal
turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment to his parents when
at the age of eighteen he enlisted with the El-Aurian military
eventually finding his place in one of El-Auria's elite
reconnaissance teams. Kal found a sense of purpose and direction
in the team. The team quickly became Kal's family and the most
important people to him in the universe.
Kal became the team's pilot and engineer; he
showed early promise and gift for all things related to computers,
electronics, communications and robotics. Another early talent
that manifested itself was the ability to "scrounge" necessary
parts and equipment to keep the teams weapons and equipment
functioning even in the harshest of conditions. He became known
for his ability to adapt known technology and devices to his needs
at any given time
Steel Phoenix, the team Kal was assigned too,
had a long list of successful operations deep into both Cardassian
and Romulan space. In 2256 he met and fell in love with woman of
his dreams, Shenne. Two years later they were married and as luck
would have it started their family right away. This time was to be
the only full and happy time of Kal's life. This happiness was
shattered in 2265 with the arrival of the Borg. Kal witnessed the
assimilation of his wife and two daughters and is the only
surviving member of Steel Phoenix. He carries an immense load of
guilt, which he covers with his boyish, irresponsible act
Kal would later join with the small band of
refugees trapped in the Nexus and be rescued by the Enterprise-B
in 2293. In mourning for his wife and friends, Kal made a series
of poor choices that eventually landed him in 2303 on the penal
colony of Galtaius IV. The time on Galtaius was well spent and
introduced Kal to a variety of species and philosophies and he was
able to use his talents to make the time there go very easy for
himself and those who befriended him. It was on Galtaius that Kal
gained a deep appreciation for Ferengi culture
Upon his release from Galtaius IV in 2330 Kal
and his new Ferengi friends opened a small biogenetics
corporation. The outward, public goal of the corporation is to
relieve and alleviate suffering. Valtech is responsible for
several medical improvements and refinements to existing
prosthetic devices. Valtech's true goal however is nothing less
than the total destruction of the Borg. Over the next forty plus
years Valtech was to grow in leaps and bounds and expand
exponentially. Kal was able to amass an immense personal fortune
and no small amount of corporate power. One thing never changed in
Kal's life and that was to be part of the military, he was not
content to just sit back and run a corporation he desired to be
actually fighting.
In 2369 Kal turned over control of daily
operations to his second in command Bosh. Kal retains full control
and decision-making authority for the company but for all intents
and purposes Bosh runs it. Kal trusts Bosh with his money. Late in
2370 Kal forged a new identity masking his connections to Valtech
and his personal fortune and true age. Kal entered the Academy in
2371 where carefully graduated in 2375 in the 89th percentile. |
