Title: The Events That Follow
Author: Ensign Yonatan Levi, Flight Ops officer
Time: After "Untold Mysteries"
Scene: Deck 11

Perseus of Macedon was the last king of the Antigonid dynasty and the one to loose his state to the Roman Empire in the great Third Macedonian War. A bloody war that shaped the events to follow after. Now, stranded alone on a planet with a similar name, Yoni couldn't evade the thought of the two names to be connected somehow. After he took a look outside one of the windows, he could notice the desert that was surrounding them. A desert created in the Great War between the Dominion and the Federation Alliance.

Like before, it was a war to shape the events to come. Yoni was never a great fan of exploration and scientific research. While for many others a career in Starfleet was to reach the unknown and to explore the deep space, for him it was a retreat from the life he had lived before. Growing on a mining field was never the best place to gain any direction or a good attitude toward life, and pretty soon Yoni found himself struggling to escape the haunting long hand of the law that tried to catch him more then once for minor crimes he had committed.

By the time he grew old enough, he had realized that continuing in this course will only lead him to nothingness, and will leave empty space in his soul. He needed to run away from this life and for that he knew he should choose a different route to lead him to any kind of success. A career in Starfleet seemed to be appropriate, one to shape his personality and to give him a fair chance in his life as an adult.

His father had a saying when he was young, one that he kept telling him all the time when Yoni or one of his brothers did something wrong: 'Remember who you are; know where do you go. Each action you will be taking today will have its own consequences tomorrow.'

This was the sentence that might have to gain Yoni any value to his life. Gazing for the last time from the window toward the devastated surface, he sighed and went on to meet his next NCO: Warrant Officer Lisam McNelly, the Airboss.

=^=A few moments later, Flight Control Center... =^=

"So that Ro'sat already giving you trouble, eh?" Lisam stepped down from his stage in the small compartment that was a miserable excuse for the Center of Flight Operations onboard, "That poor old man. Tell ye what mate, ye ca ignore this lad if ye want. He ain't worth it an' besides, most of the lads on board dun really care for him."

Lisam took off his headset and laid it down on the table in front of him. The operator nearby one of the console turned back on the lights in the center, expelling the dim luminance that was present during support crafts maneuvring. For once, Yoni could examine the Irishman in front of him. He was tall, well built and had a face of a young, fresh cadet compared to his age. On his collar he carried one hollow pip, symbol to his current new rank.

"I'm not that sure I want to make enemies around, Chief," Yoni declared his title without really knowing if it was correct. The compartment was still horribly small compared to the Flight Control Center of a Galaxy class, for an example.

"Believe me, mate, ye'll be doing this entire crew a great favor. Trust me!" Lisam chuckled and walked with Yoni outside the door, taking a tour around with him as a sign for his politeness.

"I remember you giving us a lecture in basic Flight Ops during my second year in the academy," Yoni opened up.

"Aye lad. I've been serving at the academy for the last couple of years until they gave me this promotion and this job."

Yoni understood now. The man was mostly for his career, his family, and as long as a commander could respect that, he would earn the Air Boss' cooperation all along the way.

"You have been in the war?" Yoni tried from another direction.

"Yeah, sure. I was a Flight Controller at Starbase 242. I must say, it wasn't easy fer me."

Yoni nodded, he decided to hit a more sensitive spot, "Any family? Married?"

Lisam laughed, "Aye mate. Two wagers an' a fine lass on my side. Pretty happy back there, eh?"

"Where do they live?" Yoni continued.

"They are back home, at New Berlin, on da moon. I prefer to leave 'em there, no-need to take 'em with me to this craziness lad."

"So you get to see them only on shore leaves then," Yoni threw.

"Aye. For the last couple of years I was in the academy, so there was no problem there. But I tell ye, being around so much with the two boys between yer leg do' ye no good. I need this refreshment."

"Yeah?" Yoni chuckled, "I'm not married yet, thank god, so I will take your word for it, Chief."

"Believe me, after ye get yer girl, you start thinking differently. Suddenly ye have kids to feed an' a house to build fer them. Pretty much takes away all yer plans."

"I understand," replied Yoni, and an awkward moment of silence was realized .In order to finish this dying conversation nicely and with a good impression, they stopped by one of the turbolifts accesses along the corridor.

"It has been a pleasure Chief... carry on," Yoni smiled toward him, dismissing him from trying to save that awkward moment.

"Ye, take it easy, eh?" Lisam threw a smile at him before he disappeared behind one of the turns.
