The Science department had been confused at first as to what had happened. The activation of the Progenitor device had indeed formed a stable wormhole around the Relentless, but they appeared to have not moved.

It wasn't until the other Relentless' Max had communicated with them that the pieces had begun to fall into place.

Her combadge chirped, and the voice of the on-shift Communications Officer woke her from her daze.

[Lieutenant Jenna, we are receiving a signal for you from the other ship. It's a video feed from your counterpart.]

"Put them through to Science Lab 1."

There was a momentary pause as the signal from the other Relentless was patched through. After a moment a large human male appeared on the viewscreen.

{This is Lieutenant Maximillian Jenna. To whom am I speaking?}

Maxine gazed at her counterpart. She had seen the Captain and XO's other selves and had wondered what hers would look like.

"Lieutenant Maxine Jenna, Chief Science Officer." Maxine smiled for a moment.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?"

{"Ahh, my own counterpart. Good, good. You are much better looking than the last two,"} He smiled softly at her, {But, like them, I daresay you are wondering where you are? Let me explain...}

The Senior Staff had all assembled, gathered around the large table in the Observation Lounge. Maxine had informed the Captain that her 'other self' had contacted her and helped them to solve the puzzle, and so after the Captain's initial words she led the way.

"What we are dealing with here is not a device that creates a stable wormhole, but rather a device that creates a stable Einstein-Rosen bridge. This bridge is what allows travel between universes, and as we all know these bridges have been created both accidentally and deliberately by both our universe and that of the so-called 'Mirror Universe'."

Maxine had moved as she had talked, and now standing by the display she pressed a button on the screen.

A classified video clip from the USS Enterprise (D) started on screen. At first it was a little unclear as to what was going on, but as the shot zoomed out it became evident that there was not one, but literally thousands of Enterprises, and every few seconds another one or two would appear.

"This point in history is the defining point for our other universe selves. At this point in their history they began a massive research project into inter-universal travel. A large alliance was formed which included the Klingons and Romulans, and this Allied Federation of Planets has subsequently encountered several other inter-universal travellers, including other, similar versions of the Relentless."

Maxine sat back down in her chair.

"How do we return home?" Abigail asked.

"The device needs to recharge before we can generate a stable and precisely defined bridge" Maxine began. "Currently it would appear this recharge time is a little over twelve hours. However, from what we can tell, the amount of energy used, and therefore the recharge time, will vary from jump-to-jump."
