Title: Company, Part 1
Author: Ensign Yonatan Levi, Flight Ops Officer
Time: After "Building Bridges, Part 3"
Scene: Sickbay, Mess Hall
Yoni was recovering in sickbay. At first feeling started to come back in his
legs, the blood pumping down his blood vessels, making its way to the muscles
all the way down. After that the feeling in his arms started to come back, as if
thousands of tiny ants were running up and down his arms, suggesting the blood
was making its way to the end of his fingers.
His head felt heavy, his mind was dizzy. He blinked twice before regaining focus
to his sight. In front of him stood one of the nurses, reviewing the medical
exams, cataloging them in the database. For a moment she didn't notice him.
After she did, she moved quickly to his side.
"Where.... where am I?" Yoni asked, confused.
"You are in sickbay, Ensign" she replied softly. "You passed out after we beamed
you aboard. We thought we almost lost you there with that thing."
"What thing?" Yoni asked, his confusion heightening.
He tried with great difficulty to reconstruct the last few moments before he was
beamed back aboard. The nurse silently pointed toward the bed next to him. Yoni
looked and saw an unrecognized alien, covered with patient clothes, resting
unconsciousness without any movement. Calmed, the alien looked almost innocent
to the naked eye. His skin was gray, his hair as the color of the soil where he
came from. Deep wrinkles ran all across his body, decorating him like a curse,
like a flue in his appearance.
He breathed lightly, almost unseen. The display above his bed was showing his
vital signs. They were minimal, but steady. Almost like he was in a deep kind of
coma... or was he?
"We caught him with you in the transporter beam. We managed to separate your
lifesigns from one another, but as soon as you materialized he tried to assault
the guards - they stunned him."
"He was scared" Yoni mumbled, not realizing what pushed him to say so.
He shared nothing in character with that creature next to him. He knew actually
nothing about him. So where did this impulse come from?
"Sir?" she asked, this time her turn to become confused.
"Nothing" he said and stood up from his bed.
He body hurt, his muscles crying for more rest. But it wasn't like him to give
up for his misery. He felt the urge to fight it, so he did.
"Am I fit to return to duty?"
"The doctor has determined that you are," she said "but he recommends that you
get some hours of rest. No need to burn yourself out so quickly, Ensign."
"I will manage" he said shortly and stood up on his feet, ignoring the pain that
accompanied it.
He headed toward the exit when the nurse called him again. "Lieutenant
Greenhill
stopped by an hour ago to check on your condition. He also asked that you join
him and the senior staff to dinner at twenty-hundreds-hour. Don't be late!" she
chuckled.
Yoni nodded and disappeared behind the doors. Dinner with the senior staff!?
