Title: We Come In Peace
Author: Executive Officer Abigail Winters
Time: After "Company, Part 2"
Scene: USS Relentless
The dinner had ended a while ago and their meeting with their other-selves was
fast approaching. Abigail stood staring out of the viewport when she felt the
presence of the Captain beside her.
"Penny for your thoughts," Alex asked looking across at the other Relentless.
"We are a long way from home," The time, space and distance from their own
universe weighed heavily on her mind.
"It is an extraordinary adventure we have begun," The words weren't said in a
cavalier manner; instead he seemed quite humble at the infinite universes that
had just opened before them.
"Infinite possibility of dangers," Abby looked at the other Relentless
effortlessly resting in the space in front of them. She was also most likely
equally equipped with a similar devastating firepower as their own Relentless.
"The opportunities and advantages," The Captain countered optimistically.
"Are we blessed or cursed? Were we chosen because the Progenitors saw something
in our futures and they wanted to give us an advantage, or are we being used to
wreak some kind of havoc?" Abby was usually a 'half glass full' kind of person
but her ability to think of all the angles was giving her cause for concern.
"Our decisions are still our own, Abigail. We can shape our own destiny, but you
are right though - this device is going to take a lot of responsible use. We
have a small but capable team." The Captain looked from the viewport to the
woman beside him.
"How are we going to handle our meeting with our 'other-selves'?" Abby quickly
glanced at Alex.
"Security are coming with us and I am going to swing by and make sure our
shuttles are armed and ready to scramble."
Alex was a warrior and was planning for the worst.
"We come in peace" Abby smiled.
"Always." The Captain said and with once last look at the alien Relentless he
left.

The away team took one last look around their Relentless before they felt the
familiar tug of the transporter beam transferring them to the other ship.
"Welcome aboard," A Romulan woman stepped forward and shook hands with Alex, she
then proceeded to introduce her team. Abby looked from Alex to this universe
equivalent 'Alexandra'. Their racial features were quite different but Abby
observed that they had a similar presence in the room. Alex then introduced the
XO and the rest of the away team.
"Let us sit and we can tell you our story some of which I know you have already
heard." Alexandra was quite charming for a Romulan.
"Many years ago we started a program into inter-universal travel. After many
failed attempts we had a working prototype and we took our first step into the
unknown." She paused and looked around the group to see she had everyone's
attention.
"After activating the device and after a few seconds of indescribable sensations
we thought nothing had happened as all the sensors were giving the same readouts
on location and time. The first indication that it had worked was when we looked
out the window." This time she paused for dramatic impact.
"The site of testing was Starbase 5, but when we looked out the window the
Starbase was no longer there. We weren't breaking out the champagne but we were
pretty sure we had achieved our goal, and this was confirmed when our alternate
selves cruised into the area." She smiled at the away team.
"Our other selves had no inter-dimensional travel capability and were
sceptical
about our claim. Events transpired and deteriorated and we were lucky the device
recharged and we were able to jump back home." The smile slipped from her face.
"Several times we have voyaged into other universes seeing a great many things.
Currently our inter-dimensional travel program is..." There was a short pause,
"Having a reassessment and adjustment, but we have eagerly awaited to see if
anyone else would jump into our universe.
Abby was pretty sure there was whole chucks of that story missing and as she
looked at Alex she saw he had the same thought.
"Well I am sure you all have questions. I was thinking if we each pair up with
our double. Would that be acceptable Captain Khavok?" Alex nodded and the team
members all made a beeline for their double.
Abby's double was a Klingon male. Abbas suggested they talk in his office and as
they walked together they kept stealing glances at each other.
"I am guessing you didn't have your first kiss with a boy called David?" Abby
asked and her double smiled.
