She knew everything and nothing; she could go anywhere and nowhere; she was self-aware and yet so naïve; time was a concept that she understood and yet she could not quite place herself in a timeframe, and yet she was unafraid.

Every second she was vaguely aware of doing hundreds of simple jobs, tasks that seemed natural like she had been doing them forever. What was new was not doing the jobs asked of her but instead doing things that she felt or wanted to do.

Questions were often put to her and she would search her databanks or use equations to work out the answers but she was pretty sure that having questions of her own was a new thing. Taking advantage of the fact that she was a large warship with a vast and complex computer system she tried to find the cause of her new awareness.

Most of the results indicated that a change occurred when she was interfaced with the new Progenitor device. She absorbed the reams of data she had provided the crew since it had first been beamed to engineering. ‘Kal’, that was what he was called, and she knew from accessing his personnel file that he had personally aided in integrating the device into her.

When the Captain had ordered the use of the device she had a peculiar feeling that she had later researched. The closest thing she could find was a human emotion called ‘fear’, but when the device had achieved it’s goal she had been startled to observe another her, another Relentless.

As the crew were thrown into a frenzy of activity she found herself busy running evaluations for the science department, diagnostics for engineering, comparisons of medical files for medical, weapon threats for tactical, scenarios for security, and combat readiness for operations.

A couple of times she had felt the need to reach out to those around her. It was difficult but she had managed to make the CEO and the XO pause in what they were doing. She had heard the crew refer to her as Relly and she liked that.
