She wondered how he managed to do it. How did he appear so at ease? The Captain caught her looking at him and smiled.

As the Relentless left Starbase 9 Abigail was a bundle of nerves. Not only did they have lots of new crew, they also had a ship that had ideas and feelings of her own. On top of that they were about to jump into an unknown universe.

Taking deep breaths in and out Abby looked around the bridge. The new ambassador was on hand to aid in any initial contact they may have when they jumped and he, like the captain, appeared at ease.

She knew Kal would be hovering around the Progenitor device trying to work out all its mysterious secrets and monitoring the integrity of the ship as she preformed the still mind-boggling task of transcending known-space.

Maxine would be calculating and re-calculating the multiverse index and estimating the recharge time for the device as soon as the ship emerged on the other side. As for everyone else, Abby wondered how they prepared themselves for the unique experience of bridging into another universe.

When the Captain gave the order to activate the device Abby gripped her chair and held her breath as everything folded and unfolded around her.

The scene was horrifying.

Alex was instantly on his feet closely followed by Abigail, there was no denying the sight before them; the ship that was mere seconds away from destruction was an exact replica of the Relentless.

Before any orders could be issued the ship exploded in a blinding light.

"Do you recognise the attacking ships?" It came out as a whisper.

A hard look came over the Captain’s face.

"Dominion warships."
