Title: ...Something Deltan This Way Comes
Author: Thessyr Tal, Federation Ambassador
Time: During "The Big Bang"
Scene: USS Relentless
Having received his orders Thess turned on his heel and headed out, taking the
lift down to the transporters where the refugees would be received and where he,
as the Federation representative for their Universe, would meet them.
Again, a rush.
Again, he would do well. He hated being rushed but he responded to the pressure
to perform. It just wasn't the way he preferred it.
Reflecting on his encounter with the Captain, his first direct contact with the
man since he had arrived, he found that Khavok was a guarded man with a great
deal of pain and anger in him. He had surmised that his captain had known that
touching a Deltan, or any psychic, was inviting direct contact that most
psychics would shy away from. If he had not known, it would not matter because
of all things Thess was the sigil of discretion was foremost. He had read a
great deal, perhaps more than was necessary but there were still questions as
yet unanswered.
But the one thing he understood: Captain Khavok hated the Dominion.
When he had time perhaps he would read the Captain's file again and see what he
could glean from the Starfleet doublespeak.
Taking a moment to stop by his quarters and add a touch of scent, he chose
'Receptivity', adding a very precise measure of the pheromone distillate. It
was, of course, his own and distilled from secretions harvested from himself the
last time he had access to a lab. It was extremely subtle and would act on the
concentration centers of the brains of those he met, calming them and allowing
them to be receptive to instruction. It was to be used only in emergencies, only
in situations in which an advantage would not be taken of someone.
And in this case, it should keep everyone clear on what was happening instead of
becoming infatuated with him.
