Title: Deep and Abiding Bonds
Author: Ambassador Tal
Time: After "Loose Ends Pt 2"
Scene: Outside the receiving area
Thessyr staggered slightly, as if he had tripped, as the lighting flickered in the corridor briefly; he had felt a disruption. He paused and slowly looked around, his senses alert as he probed himself and the linkages to various people he had associations with.
Deltans had, as Betazoid and Vulcans did, the ability to form deep and lasting bonds with others that could transcend great distances and even, in some cases, differing magnitudes of sentience. For Betazoids and Vulcans linking was deliberate. For Deltans, it was instinctive; a bond could form because so many different levels of consciousness were within a certain range of one another, it could be from long association or it could be simply from deep and abiding curiosity.
Needless to say, Deltans often had a large network of linkages and bonds with a variety of beings, most of them incapable of even being aware of it. Family and offspring, of course, numbered amongst those so bonded but theirs went even deeper and became of the highest endurance.
Those he checked first.
And found nothing amiss. Curiously he cocked his head slightly and felt around some more, feeling another disruption at the same time the lighting flickered again.
Imagine his amazement finding himself with a linkage to a sentience he hadn’t truly been sure existed, not with any great belief.
"Relentless," he breathed, reaching out along the linkage and trying to sense her personality, to feel her emotions... and finding nothing.
Now, in most sentient creatures such a situation would mean one of two things: That meant she had ‘died’, as much as her programmed sentience could or that she had been injured so profound that she was near death or comatose.
"Ambassador Tal to Lieutenant Levi and Commander Winters," he said, leaning up against the wall contact and activating it with his palm print. He was having a reaction to the sense of threat again someone he was bonded to and it was neither pleasant nor seemly. Several of the crew in the corridor stepped away or around him, his normally placid face communicating agitation despite his best efforts.
[Levi here] came one reply swiftly.
[Commander Winters here Ambassador] came the next one almost on the heels of the first.
"Something has happened to Relentless," he paused, ordering his thoughts from the chaos of passion with no direction, "The youngling..." he grated out as his now-trembling hand pulled back from the contact, closing the channel. Slowly, he turned staggering and headed for his quarters, the only place he could think of he could do what needed to be done and preserve some dignity. Even though, he felt that some of what was happening inside of his, in his mind, was leaking out through his face at the very least.
As a distinct and silent confirmation, people got out of his way.
