USS Relentless NCC-11966

Stardate: 70213:1645
Title: Offensive and Defensive
Author: (Alternative Universe) Admiral Foster
Time: After "The Skeleton In My Closet"
Scene: USS Relentless

It had been an eventful last few days, full of the unexpected. The Admiral had started to receive reports that the civilian ship (which was carrying the Omega bomb) was heading into a zone recently occupied by warships of the Dominion fleet.

The development and purchase of such a weapon had been a risky move, especially from someone as disreputable as the infamous assassin, John Galt. Starbase 9 had so far been spared attack in this terrible war and had instead been a safe-haven for Starfleet refugees, but the fighting was edging scarily closer towards them and they were worryingly undefended.

It had been during a reconnaissance mission that this universe’s Relentless had picked up the distress call of the civilian vessel as the Dominion ships began to attack it. How the Dominion fleet had found out about the precious cargo that the ship had been carrying was worrying, but obviously they had known as otherwise they wouldn’t have wasted their resources on such a small vessel.

The destruction of the Relentless and the crew was incredibly sad and if the Admiral lived to see the end of this war, she would definitely spare the time to grieve for her fallen comrades. And the arrival of an alternate-universe, high-powered Relentless was indeed an unexpected, but welcome, turn-up for the books. Their rescuing of the civilians and defeating of the ships was a much-needed victory to an almost broken Federation.

Alex Khavok’s strong denial of any knowledge of the bomb was disheartening and the Admiral was inclined to believe him, as she had not heard from John Galt. She was sure if the bomb had been recovered the assassin would have secured it and been in contact to demand his fee.

She looked at Abigail. She was different from her double - there was a lighter spring in her step and a more ready smile on her lips. The executive officer was currently compiling data on shields and armour, although personally the Admiral was desperate for more offensive weapons rather than the defensive technology they were offering. But the determined ‘non-negotiable’ steely-eyed look of the Captain had told her she should be grateful for what she was getting.

Her combadge bleeped and she was informed that she had a gentleman waiting for her by the name of ‘John’. Perhaps Galt would yet still provide the offensive!
