Title: Finding Omega
Author: Maxine Jenna
Time: Current
Scene: USS Relentless, Science Lab 1
Maxine had been working hard on resolving the issues with making a tricorder
able to accurately locate the Omega molecules. Whilst the sensor arrays of the
Relentless could usually be used to locate and pinpoint almost anything, they
could not perform such triangulation at present and at such close quarters,
other than by pulling away from the Starbase, and she had been told that that
was NOT an option.
She looked back up at the news feed they were still receiving from Starbase 9.
Although this universe's Admiral Foster had restricted their access to
less-classified material, she had left them a variety of other of other sources.
The news was not good - with Bajor, Trill and Risa already overrun by the
Dominion forces, the aggressor's main focus had swung towards the next nearest
major target - Earth. And although this was not Maxine's Earth and she had no
close family to speak of, she still prayed for those she knew, and those she
didn't, on that little planet.

Maxine had just finished playing with the modified tricorder, adding a little
more 'punch' to its sensory systems and overriding certain typical Starfleet
'protocols' regarding the Omega molecule. She just hoped it would last long
enough! She raised her hand to her heart, about to tap her combadge, when
Lieutenant Vilmer rushed into the Science Lab, almost bumping into the doors in
his haste.
"Kal, what brings you to my neck of the woods?" She smiled at her fellow
officer.
"I've had an idea, but I'll need your help to make it workable," he replied.
Maxine was already hooked!
"I think we can track the assailant by using his brainwaves. Whatever his
physical form, his brainwaves should remain the same." Maxine and Kal had both
read John Galt's classified file, both aware of the man's shapeshifting
abilities. "The problem comes in obtaining a baseline to work from," Kal
finished.
"Well, that is not a problem," Maxine began. "Every one of the refugees and crew
that was brought aboard from the Solar Winds had to undergo a basic medical
screening. I know for a fact that they were all checked over because some of my
staff and I helped out." Maxine smiled. "All we have to do is go through those
medical files, isolate those with any nano-technology present, and take it from
there." Luckily for them only a handful of the refugees possessed any kind of
nano-technology in their bodies, making their task that little bit easier.

Armed with a brace of tricorders as opposed to a brace of pistols, Maxine
stepped into the cargo bay with Kal at her side. They had not yet shipped the
majority of the survivors across - the Starbase personnel had been more
concerned with the 'cargo' than the people. This, of course, made life that
little bit easier for the two Starfleet officers as they moved amongst the
gathered crowd, scanning subtly for each and every brainwave pattern they had
isolated.
It only took a few minutes before they had all the signals but one, taking only
a few minutes more to positively confirm the identity of each individual.
Maxine handed the data across to Kal and the Security chief, taking the other
tricorder from her hip and proceeding to scan for the Omega bomb...
