USS Relentless NCC-11966

Stardate: 70224:1955
Title: Attuned Senses
Author: Executive Officer Abigail Winters
Time: After "Anchors away (Pt. 2)"
Scene: USS Relentless

In her life Abigail had attuned her senses to detect approaching trouble. This skill had begun when she was a young child and her stepfather and mother had one of their loud and sometimes violent arguments. The air around the house would become oppressive and a tingling sensation would run up her spine.

As the Commander looked out at the starbase she had that familiar feeling of dread; Admiral Foster had left in a hurry, Security had reported her meeting with the infamous assassin and then Engineering had reported that the officers from Starbase 9 were being difficult, trying to get more technology than the Captain had agreed to.

Previous tactical reports had noted a new barrage of sneaky low power, low frequency scans from the Starbase. Clayton theorised that the crew were trying to gather intelligence and maybe technology that way. He was working hard at blocking them as best he could.

Walking along the corridor, Abigail almost tripped over one of the panels that had yet to be put back after Lt. Levi’s intense search for the malevolent devices. It was starting to become clear that John Galt may have other ideas about the Relentless and, if this was the case, the XO was glad that their helmsman had much experience under pressure.

As Abby entered the bridge she noticed a troubled look on the Captain’s face.

"What’s wrong?" She queried.

"Reports are coming in that would suggest a gathering of Starbase 9 Security personnel in the docking area and a unusually large number of ship have left the base."

"Why is that a problem?" Abby was confused.

"They haven’t gone far; our sensors still read them in the area," Clayton answered her question.

Abigail sank into her chair on the bridge and listened as Alex ordered helm to plan a contingency escape route through the ships surrounding the Relentless, just in case. It seemed the Dominion winning the war wasn’t the only thing to be concerned about in this universe.

She knew that Ambassador Tal was still on the Starbase, and it had been a while since he had checked in. Abby hoped he could shed some light on the activities.

Everything seemed to be coming to a head rather quickly. The Omega bomb was still out there and whilst there was now a security team covertly following the notorious Galt, the bomb was sinking further on their list of priorities.

The Progenitor device was at a recharged capacity, allowing them to jump back to their own universe once they were clear of the Starbase and surrounding vessels. There was also a gathering interest in the Relly and her advanced capabilities. Relly herself was a lot quieter than she had been previously, even with several crewmembers trying to comfort and reassure her after the vicious attack. But she was complying with the crew and the ship was functioning as it should

In low murmurs the Captain and XO discussed the possibility of gathering their crew back on the ship and leaving the Omega bomb and the fate of this universe as far behind them as they could...
