Duncan paced like an animal in a cage; he wasn't used to being this helpless. His girlfriend and most of the crew were kidnapped, and here he was, waiting. The Relentless was in a stationary position, watching the Sol Sector.

Yoni and Andrew were quietly speaking; they were two of the Senior Officers left.

"Lieutenants, a word?" The Security Officer asked.

"Of course, Duncan," Yoni answered

"I have an idea. I think it's safe to assume that the Captain and the crew are being held in the same area, probably all for some kind of testing purposes. I don't know what kind and I really don't care. I'm prepared to go down there and get them, or at least assist."

"Duncan, I know why, and I can't say I blame you. We all have friends down there and we will get them out or die trying; you have my word on that. But we can't go off half-cocked," Andrew said as gently as possible.

Duncan nodded. "I didn't mean to imply any different. Give me an hour, get the ship in range and find their location; then beam me down. I'll do the rest," said Duncan. He had an idea; one he had used a while back to throw a group of Nausicaan mercenaries off his trail. He went to sickbay and grabbed the first orderly he could find.

"I need you to fine tune your bio-sensors to this frequency, then scan me," he said, typing in some instructions to a medical tricorder and handing it to her. Nodding she began doing as she was instructed. Duncan lay down on the bio bed and waited. The scan took five minutes. Then he went to find Andrew.

"You're crazy, Duncan. How do you know this will work?" Asked the Chief Conn Officer.

"I've used this before, basically the transporter beam will activate the nanites' regeneration programs. When I arrive, I'll be clinically dead. Hopefully they'll take me to an area close to the crew. Within about ten minutes the nanites will basically resuscitate me and I'll be able to get in and see what I can do," said Duncan.

"And what if this doesn't work?" Asked Yoni from his operations console.

"Then I know you two will come up with something," said Duncan.

"You'll be outnumbered at least a thousand to one down there, Lieutenant," Andrew pointed out.

"I managed to avoid detection on Cardassia Prime for the last four months of the Dominion War."

"But the Cardies didn't know what to look for; these people do," said Yoni.

"I have to try," said Duncan.

Andrew thought it over for a few moments and nodded. Duncan went to his quarters to grab a few things and prepare himself again.

Lin awoke with a dry throat and a pain in her abdomen. She looked around and saw her uniform was on a chair nearby. It didn't matter as she was tied to an examination table and wearing nothing but a simple hospital gown.

"I see you're awake," said a pleasant sounding female voice to her right. She turned her head to see a middle-aged woman stood a few feet from the table. "I'm Doctor Genevieve; Mother of Two."

"Doctor Lin Talbot, Medical Officer, USS Relentless," Lin managed.

"Would you like something to drink?" Lin nodded and so the doctor held a cup to her mouth; Lin drank greedily.

"I apologize for your discomfort, but we need to check you for any possible genetic anomalies before you are sent to the next level."

"And what is that?" Asked Lin.

"Why, Implantation, of course," Genevieve said with a smile.

"I choose not to be 'implanted', whatever that means."

"You mean you don't want to have children?" Asked a perplexed Genevieve.

"I do, someday, but now like this and not today."

"There is really no choice, Lin."

"Then I suggest you make peace with whatever deity you worship."

"And why is that?" Asked Genevieve, her voice turning smug.

"Because soon there will be one very pissed off Starfleet Marine running around here, making your lives very unpleasant. I hope your gods will have mercy on you, because he won't; this crew is his family, and he is very protective of all of us."
