In the few brief seconds it took for the jump drive to engage and the time it took to transport the ship from one universe to another Abigail’s mind was cast back to another time, the time when she had last seen that unknown vessel.

"Lieutenant... Lieutenant Winters, are you day dreaming again?" Abigail was on the end of a double shift and at the edge of space with nothing but a few dead stars; her mind had started to wander to blue skies and green fields.

"Sorry, Sir, did you want something?" The Captain of the Hercules looked like Santa Claus and had a jolly temperament to match.

"A cup of coffee, the crew rosters and universal peace." His chuckle was cut short as some sort of energy weapon hit the ship. Alarms rang out and Abigail, as Operations Officer, was fed reports across the ship of widespread damage on most levels.

The events of the next few minutes had often replayed in Abigail’s nightmares - a ship of unknown design was displayed on the viewscreen; it did not reply to hails; it did not reply to their surrender. Instead, its weapons tore through the Hercules. The crew abandoned the ship in the escape pods. Abigail could clearly remember sitting in her pod watching the unknown vessel systematically destroy every escaped soul before shimmering into nothing...

"Jump successful, we are in an unknown universe," Maxine said from the science station.

"Report." Abigail ordered.

"We have no visual on the enemy," said the chief Conn Officer.

Jumping from the carnage of the USS Atlantis to the calm of the unknown universe meant that the adrenaline coursing through the battle-ready crew had nowhere to go.

Silence descended on the bridge as everyone absorbed everything that had happen in the last hour.

"Captain, a ship is approaching and hailing us," said Damian Zaro from the Operations station.

"Put it on screen."
