Both the Negh'Var-class IKS Gik'Tal (from the Klingon meaning 'To The Death') and its commanding officer, Captain Kran'Tho, had seen much action in the Dominion War. Such battle-hardened crews often came unstuck during times of peace, but Kran'Tho and his crew continued to serve the Klingon Empire on deep-space patrols, often tackling raiders preying on the weak outer colonies.

Even so, after several years of relative quietness, the Gik'Tal continued to be among the best the Klingon fleet had to offer, a testament to Klingon engineering and perseverance. Nonetheless, the Captain had felt particularly uneasy after their recent intelligence from Starfleet Command had indicated an increase in supposed 'Raider' activity; the attacks had escalated in a manner unlike that of the Raiders Kran'Tho had fought before...


=/\= Qo'rat (Klingon Colony World) - A Short Time Later =/\=

The unknown ship had appeared as suddenly as the first rays of the morning sun, its energy beams lancing out across the still-dark skies, striking at small and insignificant targets on the planet's surface.

The Gik'Tal, as the nearest vessel, had responded within the hour to find the strangely-formed and obviously alien vessel still attacking the Klingon world. Kran'Tho did not order a hail to the vessel for such an attack on a Klingon world WOULD be met with deadly force and as the Negh'Var's weapons reached their full capacity he steadied himself for battle once more.

The Klingon weapons, numbering two pulse disrupter cannons, eighteen disrupter cannons and eight photon torpedo launchers, all lay ready to fire at the alien vessel upon the Captain's orders; an order he gave a moment later...

Energy weapons reached across space from the Klingon ship to the unknown and hostile alien vessel, impacting at several sections. Almost lazily, the alien vessel turned to meet its attacker, pausing for a moment, even allowing several other Klingon energy blasts to hit it, before returning fire.

As its own energy weapons returned along a similar path to the Gik'Tal, the crew of the Negh'Var-class vessel readied themselves for impact...

The wreckage of the IKS Gik'Tal lay before the unknown vessel, the few escape pods containing survivors already picked off one-by-one. Its data-gathering mission now complete, the unknown vessel prepared its inter-universal drive to return home...
