STAR TREK : INFINITY RULES, REGULATIONS & TIPS

How Long Should A Post Be?

The length is entirely up to you. We would however ask you to remember your fellow writers/readers so if it is turning into an epic you might want to split it into two or three parts. On the other hand don’t interrupt the flow of a post by breaking it down into too smaller parts.

How Often Should I Post?

Once a week would be nice! Obviously life gets in the way and this isn’t always possible and sometimes the muse just doesn’t work so we understand if some weeks you write fanatically and other weeks are a little quieter. However, as a minimum we expect all our writers to post at least once every three weeks (corresponding to green on the activity meter).

Can I Include Other Characters In My Posts?

Absolutely! In fact that is what makes the game more fun when the story ties in together and characters interact. Please make sure when writing other people’s characters you write them as their writer portrays them. You can use their bioprofiles or previous stories to help guide you. See the 'Character Interaction' FAQ.

What Can I Write About?

Writers can write any part of the story they want from their point of view. Occasionally, a post may be written from the perspective of an NPC.
If you have an idea for a story we would encourage you to contact your Captain or Executive Officer beforehand so that they can help shape your storyline.

Are There Rules On The Style Of Writing?

Everyone has their own style of writing and you may want to experiment with your style until you find something that works for you. We would encourage you to read other people’s posts and make use of the more experienced writers. To write in the first person is a real skill. If done well it can be an amazing read but more often than not it is a bit of the chore for the reader so we would advise caution. For formatting a post see the 'Formatting Your Post' FAQ.

If you are struggling to write your character then you can of course contact you Captain or Executive Officer who will try to help you.

What Happens To My Post Once It Is Submitted?

Submitted posts are read and edited by the ship's Captain. They look out for clashes in storylines, spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors. Writers accept that by submitting their posts that to some degree their work may be changed to ensure the smooth progression of the storyline.

If you have any questions about the editing done to your post please contact your Captain.

Who Do The Stories Belong To?

Once submitted the posts belong to the Infinity writing group with the understanding that they will be put on the website as part of a continuing storyline. However, the author will always be clearly accredited for their work.
If you should leave Star Trek : Infinity the posts will still remain on the website as part of the storyline archives.

What If I Am Going To Be Absent For A While?

If you are unable to write for any period of time please tell your Captain or Executive Officer. If this absence is for a considerable time your Commander may wish to work your absence into the game to keep it flowing whilst you are away.

Can I have more than one character?

As a general rule, Star Trek : Infinity allows its members to have up to two main characters, with the two characters USUALLY placed on different posting units. Exceptions will be made for experienced writers already with the Infinity writing group who have contributed to the development of the game.

Star Trek : Infinity reserves the right to reject applications if it feels an additional crew member may impact negatively on the game.

Who has the final say?

Although we will try to be as democratic as possible the decision ultimately stops with the ship's Captain.

If deemed necessary a decision can be taken to the administrators / co-founders of the site.

How do I join?

Fill out an application and we will send you an email within 5 days. After that you will start to receive stories from your chosen ship. Your bioprofile will then be added to the ship crewroster once your first post has been received.

What if I wish to leave?

In the event that you wish to leave the game please contact your Captain. Writers are welcome to take their characters with them when they go. However we cannot delete their past participation from the site.

How do I win an award?

Write, write and write!

Privacy

We will endeavour to protect our writers privacy by not publishing email addresses on the website. However, the writers section on the website is an opportunity for writers to get to know each and give readers a different view of the characters that they read.
